To coordinate shower finishes, approve an identified physical sample and the components it covers. A colour name such as gunmetal grey, matte black or silver is useful for browsing, but it is not a complete finish specification. Record the appearance, relevant substrate and documented coating description separately.
Colour names are the beginning, not the approval record
The QSW three/four-outlet range lists bright silver, matte black and gunmetal grey, each in two outlet configurations. H43148 instead lists black, silver and brushed silver. Those catalogue names help buyers identify available options; they do not prove that similarly named finishes across unrelated ranges match exactly.P07P05
Our recommended finish record identifies the product, configuration, component and agreed appearance reference. If a buyer wants a coordinated mixer, shower head and other bathroom fittings, list every component that must be compared rather than approving only the most prominent part.
| Record field | What it should capture |
|---|---|
| Configuration | Product reference and exact colour/assembly option |
| Physical reference | Dated sample identifier and approved photographs |
| Visual scope | Which visible parts were compared together |
| Material and process | Only the documented substrate and coating description |
| Acceptance conditions | Agreed comparison method and relevant viewing conditions |
| Exceptions | Components or later options not included in the approval |
This is a suggested procurement record, not a claim that all suppliers use the same production or inspection procedure.
Keep substrate and coating statements separate
A brass mixer can have more than one finish, and a metallic-looking component may have a different substrate. Reference 1049709521606 records an ABS body designation and a brass internal waterway. That construction detail should not be lost because the visible option is described as grey.P04
Likewise, do not automatically translate a colour into PVD, electroplating or a durability level. Several reviewed records contain conflicting coating descriptions. Where the process has not been resolved, publish and order by the supported appearance information rather than inventing a technical process.
This is particularly important when preparing a private-label specification. A buyer may approve a colour while still needing to establish how that finish is documented and what conditions apply to it.
Compare the complete assembly
Review the mixer, overhead shower, hand shower, holders, rail and visible fittings together where a coordinated appearance matters. A close match on two large surfaces does not establish the same appearance on a small holder or a flexible hose fitting.
Photograph the approved assembly with its identifier and save a separate record of the actual items used in the review. Images help communication, but screen and camera differences make a photograph an incomplete substitute for the physical reference when precise matching is required.
For the first order, agree how the approved sample will be retained or identified and how any later difference will be reviewed. Avoid vague approvals such as “same grey as the last photo” when several images or product versions have been exchanged.
Use test reports for their actual purpose
ISO 9227 describes salt-spray test methods. Its public scope specifically warns against using those methods to rank different materials or predict long-term corrosion resistance. A test duration should therefore not be converted into a promised number of bathroom-service years.T05
When a finish report is relevant, check the specimen, method, exposure, acceptance criteria and whether the specimen matches the selected component. Do not apply a report for a different substrate or coating to the whole shower set.
A product range can be described accurately without making a universal “scratch-proof,” “corrosion-proof” or lifetime-finish claim. Those promises would need specific support and agreed scope.
Plan finish variants without multiplying uncertainty
A practical first private-label enquiry can separate a catalogue finish from a custom appearance request. Ask for the base option and the additional finish work as distinct scopes, including any sample requirements and order-specific minimums.
For an assortment, establish whether colours can be mixed and at which quantity level. A listed colour does not automatically imply that every custom logo, component combination or packaging option is available in that finish.
If the buyer changes the finish after the sample has been accepted, treat it as a change requiring review. Keep the revision visible in the quote, product photographs and packing labels so the wrong approved reference is not reused.
Buyer questions
Can all products described as gunmetal grey be treated as a matching set?
Not without an appropriate comparison. The same name does not establish identical appearance across different components, suppliers or product ranges.
Does a brushed-silver description prove stainless-steel construction?
No. H43148's finish label and component material records are separate. Use the material specification for each component, not the colour wording.P05
What can I send to start a finish discussion?
Send the chosen product reference, desired appearance and any physical-reference information. Identify the components that must coordinate and the planned order quantity.
Review listed shower configurations or discuss a branded finish and sample.
